Department of Political Science and International Relations – PSIR

The department of Political Science and International Relations was founded with the Presidential Decree 118/2003 (Government Gazzette 102, Issue Α’) and belong to the School of Social and Political Sciences that based in Korinthos. The department commenced its operation and received its first student in the academic year 2007-2008. The department seeks to provide complete university education in the fields for Political Science, International Relations, International and European History, and new technologies. The degree prgramme is also geared towards assimilating students to the employment market.

Infrastucture

The department occupies two modern buildings at the center of Korinthos. The main building -on 1 Aristotelous Str & Leof Athinon- has five fully equipped lecture rooms, a multi-purpose room, a fully equipped contemporary computer room, and a library with study area. The second building hosts offices for staff members and a multipurpose room.

Library and study area

The department operates a specialized library organized according to intenrational standards, and utilizing contemporary RFID systems for loan management.

Through its affiliation to the Hellenic Academic Libraries the library is also able to serve the full content from a very large number of Academic Journals and materials. The library is able to provide a complete service to the members of the academic community and has a large collection of Greek and especially international books, journals and references works.

Computing Services and Facilities

Students of the department, have unrestricted access to a room with state-of-the-art workstations and software. The computing facilities are freely accessible also by other members of the academic community including visiting appointments, visiting researchers, and so on.

All members of the academic community, regardless, enjoy full access to the services offered to them by the university or the ministry. These include the following:

  • Electronic management of course textbooks ( via the Eudoxos)
  • Electronic Management of Student ID Card
  • e-Classroom facilities
  • 50GB of Online storage space (via the “Pithos” service )

International collaboration and Internationalized Studies

The department actively seeks to be part of the society, the academic community as well as the employment market. To this end the department zealously fosters national and international collaborations tha cover its activities spectrum.

International Collaborations in Postgraduate Studies

From 2013-2014 the department operates two highly internationalized Masters degrees.

The MA in Global Political Economy is a joint Master’s degree offered with the University of Neapolis, Pafos, Cyprus.

The MA in MEditerranean Studies is offered in collaboration with the Universities of Bologna (Italy), Tunis (Tunisia), Inalco (France), Neapolis Pafos (Cyprus)

Work Placement Programme

The capacity to develop skills, acquire working environment experiences and to apply university education are important assets for the assimilation of our students within the employment market. For this purposes we make full use of the work placement programme to foster a wide-reaching network of public and private sector organizations where our student are able to do their work placement during their period of study at the department.

Erasmus Student Exchange & Academic Mobility Programme

Extroversion, collaboration with University institutions abroad, assimilation of knowledge and experiences, interaction with multiple cultures and societies are major priorities of the department of Political Science and International Relations. In this context we utilize fully the capabilities of the ERASMUS academic mobility programme to create an extended network of widely-recognized partnering institutions abroad.
