Course Description

This course examines the formation and evolution of global environmental governance, with an emphasis on diplomacy regarding climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable development. It analyzes international regimes, multilateral agreements, and the role of international organizations, states, non-state actors, and policy networks. Particular emphasis is placed on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Paris Agreement, and the Sustainable Development Goals. The course also examines the link between the environment and security, the geopolitics of the energy transition, and the challenges of implementing international commitments. The goal is to understand the negotiation mechanisms and multilevel governance that shape environmental policy at the global level.
