Course Description

This course is designed for students in the Department of Political Science and International Relations who are starting French from scratch and have no prior knowledge. It aims to familiarize them with basic grammar, everyday vocabulary, and essential communication skills (comprehension and production of written and spoken language), through themes related to daily life as well as their broader field of study. The course makes use of authentic material from the French-speaking press and internet, adapted to the students’ level, so they can be introduced early to key political, social, and international terms, as well as to cultural aspects of the Francophone world. Through simple texts and activities, students learn how to introduce themselves, talk about their daily life, and recognize words and phrases related to political life, human rights, democracy, institutions, and international relations. Teaching is carried out through weekly lectures and practical exercises. A variety of sources are used, such as videos, audio clips, interactive exercises, and short political or social texts. Students are invited to take part in simple written and oral activities and to approach the language not only as a communication tool but also as a bridge to the world of international and political sciences.
