The course deals with the historical evolution, the organisation and the performance of public administration in Greece and its administrative reform challenges and prospects. Starting with the historical evolution and formulation of the national administrative model, the course analyses the wider socio political environment of public administration in Greece and the factors that contributed to its organisation and performance. The organisation and performance of the national administrative system is presented through the analysis of public agencies' models of organisation, management and performance, the coordination patterns and the distribution of the competencies for public services provision between the public agencies. Furthermore, the course presents the organisation of public Greek administration at central, regional, and local level, the pitfalls and problems of the efficient and effective public services provision, and the challenges for the reform of the national administrative system.
