Course Description

The course focuses on the management of transboundary water resources as a field of contemporary diplomacy and international cooperation. It examines the legal and institutional frameworks governing international rivers and river basins, as well as theoretical approaches to environmental security. Through case studies (e.g., the Nile, Danube, Tigris–Euphrates), issues of conflict, cooperation, and negotiation are analyzed. Particular emphasis is placed on the link between water, climate change, and sustainable development, as well as on the role of international organizations and regional mechanisms. The course provides students with tools for understanding “resource diplomacy” in an environment of growing environmental uncertainty.
